We’ve reached that time of the year when coming to work is a complete joy. Even more of a complete joy, perhaps I should say. The schools are off, the trains are empty and there’s a heatwave pencilled in for midweek. All we have to detain us on the way to work is the occasional lost tourist needing directions to West London’s outstanding tourist attractions (or the beach, for our lucky staff on the way to work in our Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol and Algarve offices).
It’s puzzling when international organisations close down throughout August instead of taking advantage of the summer to help their clients. The demand is certainly there. For property websites, the summer is one of the busiest times for its international listings.
So if you are looking for a property overseas this summer, maybe the urge having overtaken you while abroad, or are making plans for any kind of currency transaction, rest assured that we will be open at the usual times, in all of our offices. We don’t even take a siesta.
And what a week we have ahead of us. We can probably assume a Johnson Prime Minister-ship begins on Wednesday. While this should be “priced in” to the exchange rate already, meaning no serious ructions to the value of the pound when it is announced, there is a lot that could happen. How many ministers will resign on Tuesday – the Chancellor Philip Hammond will certanly be one. Who will get the plum jobs from Johnson? We could easily see a bounce in the pound, but how long will that be sustained?
If you have a major transaction in the offing, do call your trader today on 020 7898 1541. It may be worth your while being ready to take advantage if any of Boris’s optimism reaches the currency markets later in the week, as it may well not last. You can do that with a Forward Contract.
Whatever happens this summer, however, as a heatwave arrives, it’s essential to keep a cool head and focus on your budget, your risks and the solutions to avoiding those risks. Do please call us on 020 7898 0541.
